Stars Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion were on hand to introduce the trailer to the packed crowd. Speaking with Hypable earlier in the day, Tudyk explained his favorite scene in the
Con Mantrailer (one he also recreated during the panel) is with the tooth fairy. “The guy who plays the tooth fairy, I went to high school with,” said Tudyk. “A lot of people we had working on this were friends. We hadn’t worked together since the ninth grade in
Winnie the Pooh.”
And as for Nathan Fillion? “I can’t wait to see the trailer, I haven’t seen it yet,” he quipped.
Given what happened to
Firefly, it isn’t surprising that Tudyk turned to crowdfunding
Con Man. Did they also pitch it to television? “Oh, yeah,” Tudyk laughed at the panel.
Crowdfunding turned out to be the right choice for
Con Man. After setting an initial goal of $425,000, the creative team raised $3.2 million through their Indiegogo campaign, with over 46,000 fans donating in order to ensure the project would happen.
Con Man will premiere on Vimeo On Demand on September 30, with three new episodes airing every Wednesday. The series will run for a total of 12 episodes, over four weeks and is available now for
preorder.
As for a season 2, Tudyk answered a fan question at the panel with the optimistically vague, “We’d love to see a season 2; we’ll see how this one goes.”
